NEG8 Carbon Named Among Shortlisted Companies for RDS Circular Economy Awards

NEG8 Carbon has been recognised for its pioneering work in Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology by being shortlisted for the prestigious 2025 RDS Circular Economy Awards.

The company’s DAC technology improves energy efficiency and reduces costs, making carbon removal more accessible at scale. This advancement has the potential to support circular systems in industries that are difficult to decarbonise, such as aviation, concrete production and other hard-to-abate sectors.

DAC captures carbon dioxide directly from the air, and once captured, this CO₂ can be used in a circular way. For example, DAC can capture the CO₂ emitted from aeroplanes, then use it in the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The fuel can then be used to power the planes, creating a cycle where emissions are re-used rather than released into the atmosphere.

Speaking about the announcement, Founder & Managing Director of NEG8 Carbon, Ray Naughton, said:

“Direct Air Capture has an important part to play in carbon removal and the circular economy. As engineers and scientists, NEG8 Carbon looks at the full lifecycle of materials and energy. DAC allows us to close the loop—capturing emissions and turning them into something valuable. We’re honoured to be recognised by the RDS, and we believe this technology is a great tool for industries working towards genuine net-zero strategies.”

The awards ceremony will take place in April 2025 at the RDS Concert Hall as part of the Finding Common Ground Festival. The festival brings together scientists, researchers, policymakers and industry leaders to explore Ireland’s potential in the circular economy.

The multi-day event features talks and panel discussions on topics including land use, the bioeconomy, decarbonising construction and innovative ways to address environmental challenges.

The RDS Circular Economy Awards celebrate businesses and organisations that design out waste, keep products and materials in use, and help regenerate natural systems.

NEG8 Carbon’s shortlisting highlights the growing importance of carbon removal technologies in achieving these aims.
