Direct Air Capture in Ireland – NEG8 Carbon on Kilkenny Today

19 January 2026

Direct Air Capture (DAC) in Ireland is poised to go to the next level as Waterford-based NEG8 Carbon prepares to build it’s first full-scale DAC unit.

On the back of the news that NEG8 has engagegd Kilkenny engineering company, Prochem, to do an engineering study to build a 50 tonnes per annum carbon capture module (see:NEG8 Carbon Scales Direct Air Capture Technology), NEG8’s David Mulrooney chatted to Eugene Doyle on Community Radio Kilkenny’s “Kilkenny Today” show.

David explained how Direct Air Capture works and why we need carbon capture to help fight climate change. Considering the urgent need that Ireland has to achieve its emissions goals, the government and industry would do well to look to DAC to help decarbonise hard to abate industries, such as data centres and cement production.

Listen here to David as he speaks to Eugene Doyle (starts at 24:40): Kilkenny Today with Eugene Doyle
