NEG8 carbon capture team

About Us

Our Story

NEG8 Carbon started in 2014 as a spin-out from carbon capture research conducted at Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, and following investment in 2021, the team started to commercialise the technology. We are based in Waterford, Ireland, where our labs and development centre is located. Here we developed Ireland’s first operational DAC system, and we have scaled our process for the deployment of full-scale commercial units.

Where is NEG8 Carbon’s DAC Technology Used?

DAC Project Developers
NEG8 Carbon supplies the technology and builds the DAC adsorber units for large-scale Direct Air Capture projects.

Utilization Processes
Our captured CO₂ can be used, for example, as feedstock, in food and beverages and in producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). (See: What is Carbon Dioxide Utilization?)

Partnerships
We welcome collaborations with other technology developers, governments, academia and industries to further expand the reach and impact of our technology. (See: Deep Sky Labs DAC Project)

Waterford, Ireland
The perfect environment for technology development

Our Waterford city site provides the ideal environment for developing our carbon capture technology. The location provides access to sophisticated prototyping and manufacturing capabilities which will help to address the global challenges of climate change and global warming.

The Team

BEng, PhD

John is a chemical engineering post graduate with extensive experience in fields relevant to carbon capture and utilisation. He has published extensively in the fields of emission control, hydrogen production and carbon utilisation (over 40 papers). He was Chief Technology Officer at MOF Technologies, a spin-out from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) specialising in the production, characterisation and utilisation of Metal Organic Framework sorbents for applications including carbon capture. He was instrumental in growing and expanding the company from its roots in a university research laboratory and helping to prepare the company for its successful initial VC funding round.  He has experience in developing technologies from the laboratory to pilot scale and on to full scale manufacturing. He is passionate about combatting climate change and brings over 20 years of experience in fields related to carbon capture and utilisation to the development and commercialisation of NEG8 Carbon’s DAC technology.
