Irish Company Targeting Hundreds of Millions of Tonnes of CO2 Capture by 2050 with Direct Air Capture (DAC)
NEG8 Carbon recently featured in the Business Plus magazine where Chief Commercial Officer, Dr Adrian Costigan, spoke with George Morahan about the climate crisis we are facing and how Direct Air Capture (DAC) can help capture the millions of tonnes of excess carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air.
Ireland faces a shortfall in reaching its 2030 EU emissions targets, with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) projecting only a 29% reduction from 2018 levels instead of the targeted 51%, risking billions in EU fines.
Despite the daunting gap, Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology offers hope, with companies like Ireland’s NEG8 Carbon pioneering innovations in DAC technology to remove CO₂ directly from the atmosphere. The company believes that if Ireland redirected potential fines into DAC it could meet its emissions targets more cost-effectively.
Internationally, DAC and carbon capture are receiving growing support, with large-scale investments from the US and UK.
